Sarawak civil servants graduate from Curtin Malaysia’s elite business programme, strengthening state talent pipeline

Miri, Sarawak – 11 June 2025 – In an event underscoring the Sarawak Government’s investment in human capital, Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently honoured a distinguished group of civil servants who successfully completed the Master of International Business (MIB) programme, Class of 2023–2025.

The graduates, all mid- to senior-level officers sponsored by the Sarawak Government, were celebrated during a special appreciation and farewell ceremony held on campus. The event marked the culmination of an intensive two-year postgraduate journey designed to empower public sector professionals with global business acumen and digital-era leadership skills.

As part of a global university ranked among the top one per cent of universities worldwide, Curtin Malaysia has emerged as a regional hub for cutting-edge business education. The MIB programme, in particular, is tailored to meet the demands of today’s interconnected economy, preparing government leaders to navigate international markets, digital transformation, and strategic decision-making.

“This achievement reflects the academic strength of the MIB programme and the dedication of our students,” said Dr. Samuel Adeyinka-Ojo, one of the programme’s key lecturers. “We’re proud to support Sarawak’s ambitions by developing professionals equipped to lead in a rapidly evolving global landscape.”

Held on the final day of an intensive seminar that combined two core units with student presentations, the ceremony served not only as a farewell but also a platform for impact. The graduates shared powerful reflections on their learning journeys, highlighting how the programme enhanced their critical thinking, policy insight, and collaborative networks.

As part of their final coursework, many also submitted reflective journals, providing constructive feedback and recommendations that will inform future improvements to the MIB curriculum. These insights are expected to strengthen Curtin Malaysia’s ongoing collaboration with the Sarawak Government and further align its academic offerings with public sector needs.

“This partnership is more than academic; it is strategic,” said Associate Professor Lew Tek Yew, Head of the Department of Management and Marketing at Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business. “Together with the Sarawak government, we are shaping the next generation of leaders who will drive transformation not only locally but across the region.”

The event reaffirms Curtin Malaysia’s commitment to delivering globally recognised, industry-aligned education for working professionals. It also highlights the university’s pivotal role in talent development for both public and private sectors.
