10 day Educational tour at Curtin Sarawak for Jurong Junior College Singapore Students

Wednesday, 24 September 2007 – Curtin University of Technology Sarawak gave a warm welcome to students and teachers from Jurong Junior College Singapore on their first day of the 10 days Educational Tour on Engineering at Curtin Sarawak Program.

“We are proud to be the first batch of this educational program from Singapore and we look forward to more interaction and possible future collaboration with Curtin University of Technology Malaysia,” said Mrs. Wang Tan Sun Sun, Vice Principle of Jurong Junior College Singapore.

The Educational Tour on Engineering at Curtin Sarawak program is initiated by Jurong Junior College Singapore to give an opportunity for their students to experience University life and to gain more knowledge about the different Engineering courses that they can study when they graduate from A-Levels.

“There is a wide variety of activities and projects arranged for the students to participate in to enhance their learning experience while they are here,” said Dr. Joan Gribble, Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Sarawak.

“Students get to learn about Petroleum processing and join in the Chemical Pilot Plant demonstration, Volcano simulation demonstration, Robocode demonstration and attend lectures for Mechanical Engineering, Water Engineering, Engineering Design & Process, Artificial Intelligence. Students will also join other fun activities such as building a water rocket, building bridges with marshmallow and spaghetti,” she added further.

The Singaporean visitors will enjoy the ultimate Sarawak experience by visiting the Niah National Park, the Iban Long House and the different attractions of Miri Resort City.

The Jurong Junior College was established in 1981 by the Ministry of Education, Singapore. The College has approximately 150 staff and 1,800 students with 10% of the student population consisting of International students from China, Nigeria, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia and other countries. The main streams for the A-Level programs include Science (Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology), Arts (History, Geography, Economics, English & Chinese Literature) and Language Elective Program.
