Curtin Malaysia and Board of Engineers Malaysia partner to facilitate online registration of engineering graduates

Miri – 29 August 2023 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) and the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the online e-Bulk registration of Curtin Malaysia’s engineering graduates upon the completion of their studies. This collaboration aims to streamline and expedite the registration process, ensuring a seamless transition for engineering graduates into the professional engineering workforce.

Under the MoU, Curtin Malaysia will work in close coordination with the BEM to facilitate the registration of its engineering graduates with the board in compliance with the Registration of Engineers Act, which requires all engineering graduates to register with the BEM as graduate engineers in order to practise engineering in Malaysia. This partnership aims to foster a stronger adherence to professional standards while promoting the development and growth of competent engineering professionals.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Board of Engineers Malaysia to enhance the registration process for our engineering graduates,” said Pro Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Simon Leunig, who signed for Curtin Malaysia. “This collaboration will not only streamline the registration process but will also ensure that our graduates are well-prepared to enter the engineering profession with the necessary credentials and recognition.”

The signing was part of a signing ceremony of MoUs between BEM and several universities held in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with the BEM Convention 2023 at Menara Matrade, which was witnessed by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. Signing for the board was its president, Datuk Ir. Ahmad Redza bin Ghulam Rasool.

The collaboration underscores between Curtin Malaysia and the BEM their commitment to providing an efficient and future-forward framework that enhances the employability and professional growth of engineering graduates. Over the last five years, the BEM has registered approximately 14,000 graduates annually.

In addition to signing the MoU with Curtin Malaysia, the BEM contributed RM10,000 to the university as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. The funds will be awarded to Curtin Malaysia’s outstanding engineering graduates at their graduation ceremonies under the BEM President Award over the next five years.
