Curtin Malaysia and UOB Malaysia collaborate to enhance awareness of banking and finance sector to students

Miri – 15 June 2023 – The Faculty of Business at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) and UOB Malaysia recently teamed up to host a career awareness event at its campus aimed at enhancing the awareness of students about the banking and finance industry and guide them towards developing the necessary skills and competencies in the field.

Leading the UOB Malaysia team was Vice President of Business Development and manager  of Worksite Marketing and Personal Financial Services and UOB Innovation Hub, Violet Ong, and HR Business Partner, Lilian Wong.

This event gave the students valuable insights into UOB Malaysia and the opportunity to explore career opportunities with the bank, network with the UOB Malaysia team, and cultivate skills that will be crucial in their future professional careers.

It included a sharing session by Simon Chieng, an alumnus of Curtin Malaysia who has gone on to successful career with UOB Malaysia. Chieng related his experience entering and working in the banking industry, and gave the students pointers on forging their own career paths into the industry.

The UOB Malaysia team also conducted an open interview session for business and information technology (IT) students keen to pursue professional careers with the bank, and set up booths to provide financial literacy consultation to members of the campus community.

Staff members of Curtin Malaysia, meanwhile, were also given the opportunity to learn more about the banking industry, its future outlook, and investment opportunities through an exclusive sharing session with the UOB Malaysia team and staff of the UOB branch in Miri led by Senior Vice President for Area Sales (East Malaysia Wealth) and Head and Privilege Banking, Wong Sing Jing. This was a followed by networking luncheon for UOB and Curtin Malaysia representatives at the campus café.

“We are excited to partner with Curtin Malaysia to provide its students with the opportunity to learn about the banking and finance industry, and gain insights into the various career paths available in this field, and specifically with UOB Malaysia,” said Ong.
