Curtin Malaysia champions mental health through Student Wellbeing Day

Miri, Sarawak – 4 June 2026 – In an era where student mental health is increasingly in focus, Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) Faculty of Business (FOB) has taken proactive steps to support student wellbeing through its recently organised Student Wellbeing Day, a campus-wide initiative promoting mindfulness, emotional resilience, and holistic health.

Held at the Curtin Malaysia campus, the event drew enthusiastic participation from students across various disciplines, reflecting growing awareness of the importance of mental wellbeing in academic life.

The initiative was organised under the Faculty of Business Learning and Teaching (L&T) Committee and spearheaded by Dr Lynn Ling Yew Hua, alongside Dr Ho Jie Min and Yip Ka Yii, as part of the faculty’s continued efforts to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

According to Dr Lynn Ling Yew Hua, student wellbeing is fundamental to academic achievement and personal growth.

“University life can be demanding, and it is important that students feel supported not only academically, but also emotionally and socially. Through initiatives like Student Wellbeing Day, we hope to encourage students to prioritise self-care, seek support when needed, and build resilience throughout their educational journey,” she said.

A major highlight of the programme was the participation of professional counsellors from Sincere Centre Miri, who conducted quick mental health screenings focusing on stress, anxiety, and mood assessment. Students also received personalised guidance and emotional support in a safe and confidential setting, helping to normalise conversations surrounding mental health.

The event also featured interactive colouring and drawing activities designed to promote relaxation, mindfulness, and stress relief, creating a calm and therapeutic atmosphere across campus.

Beyond mental health awareness, the programme also incorporated a holistic approach to wellbeing through a collaboration with students from Avantpreneur Business Lab, a student-led Work Integrated Learning project at Curtin Malaysia that bridges academic knowledge with real-world community engagement.

The student team raised awareness on the importance of skincare and self-care as part of maintaining overall wellbeing, while simultaneously gaining hands-on experience in leadership, teamwork, project management, and problem-solving.

The organising committee noted that the event aligns with Curtin Malaysia’s broader mission of nurturing well-rounded graduates by supporting students not only in their academic pursuits, but also in their emotional and social development.

The Faculty of Business Learning and Teaching Committee remains committed to introducing impactful student-centred initiatives that strengthen mental wellbeing, resilience, and positive campus experiences.

The organising team also expressed appreciation to Sincere Centre Miri for their community-driven efforts in providing accessible and, in many cases, free counselling and support services to individuals in need.
