Curtin Malaysia IChemE Student Chapter hosts Virtual Reality Industry and Aspen HYSYS workshops

Miri – 27 July 2023 – The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Student Chapter of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently hosted Virtual Reality Industry and Aspen HYSYS workshops for chemical engineering students of the university, providing them with valuable insights into the latest advancements in virtual reality technology and the Aspen HYSYS software widely used in the chemical engineering industry.

At the Virtual Reality Industry Workshop, attendees delved into the potential applications and benefits of virtual reality technology, including experiencing hands-on demonstrations of cutting-edge virtual reality solutions. In addition, Dr. Tan Yie Hua, senior lecturer in the Chemical and Energy Engineering Department, shared her experiences in the field and also discussed the future of virtual reality.

Meanwhile, at the Aspen HYSYS Workshop, attendees were introduced to Aspen HYSYS, a leading process simulation software widely used in the chemical engineering industry. The workshop, facilitated by Associate Professor Lau Shiew Wei of the Chemical and Energy Engineering Department, also featured practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises. This allowed the attendees to enhance their proficiency in utilising Aspen HSYS for process optimisation, plant design, and operational analysis.

Associate Professor Bridgid Chin Lai Fui, Dr. Tan Yie Hua, Dr. Angnes Tiong Ngieng Tze, who are academic advisors to the IChemE Student Chapter, expressed their satisfaction with the success of the workshops as they were well attended and well received by the students.

Associate Professor Chin said these events have played a significant role in fostering innovation and promoting the growth of the virtual reality and chemical engineering communities at Curtin Malaysia.

“We are thrilled with the positive response and engagement we received during both workshops,” she said. “These events have undoubtedly enriched the knowledge of our students and allowed them to explore the cutting-edge technologies and tools which could be very beneficial to them in their future careers.”

The Curtin Malaysia IChemE Student Chapter serves as a platform to promote awareness among chemical engineering students at Curtin Malaysia on the latest developments in the field of chemical engineering, as well as create opportunities for them to expand their professional networks.
