Curtin Malaysia student qualifies for Curtin Global Pitching Competition Finale

Miri – 5 May 2023 – The Faculty of Business at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently hosted a Global Pitching Competition featuring some of the brightest student minds in the campus. The competition saw students from across faculties and areas of study competing to pitch their ideas that could potentially solve global problems.

The competition was aimed at developing the students’ skills in problem-solving, creative thinking, public speaking, and presentation, as well as helping them build their confidence, with mentorship and support provided by local academics and entrepreneurs. It also provided an excellent opportunity for the students to network and gain valuable experience in product design and development.

The competition was judged by a panel of experts from different backgrounds, including academics, industry leaders and entrepreneurs.

Fifi Liew, a Master of Philosophy in Marketing student, was named the winner for her innovative idea of ‘Gracefully Cleaned’, a bath and toilet aid for the elderly and handicapped.

“I’m thrilled to have won the top prize in the competition,” said Liew, who said the product idea was inspired by her grandmother who has needed geriatric care for several years.

“I hope my product idea will one day benefit those with mobility issues,” she said.

Liew will be representing Curtin Malaysia as the regional finalist in the virtual Curtin Global Pitching Competition Finale on 25 May 2023. The winners of the finale will receive scholarships to Curtin’s Ignition Program plus AUD$6,000 in travel funding towards the cost of attending the programme in Perth.

The Curtin Global Pitching Competition brings together the most innovative new student entrepreneurs from across Curtin’s global campuses around the world. The finale of the competition will see students from Curtin campuses in Australia, Dubai, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore and Sri Lanka pitch their innovative ideas to a global audience.
