Curtin Malaysia students gain first-hand industry exposure through Shin Yang Engagement Programme

Miri, Sarawak – 29 May 2026 – Students from the Faculty of Business of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently stepped beyond the classroom and into the corporate world through a specially organised industry engagement programme with Shin Yang Corporate Services, aimed at strengthening the students’ professional readiness and career confidence.

Held at the Shin Yang Corporation Office, the programme provided the students with valuable first-hand exposure to workplace expectations, corporate culture, and recruitment processes through interactive industry sharing sessions and practical interview experiences.

The engagement featured a career-sharing session by Bryan Chen, Chief Audit Officer of Shin Yang Corporate Services, who offered the students insights into the realities of the corporate environment, evolving industry expectations, professional communication, and career development pathways within the business sector.

The students also had the opportunity to participate in a mock job interview session designed to simulate actual internship and employment interviews. The activity allowed selected students to experience professional recruitment processes while receiving direct feedback from industry practitioners, an experience many described as both eye-opening and motivating.

The initiative was led by Dr Ivy Hii, Associate Dean (External Engagement) and Dr Fayrene, Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) of the Faculty of Business as part of Curtin Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to enhancing graduate employability through meaningful industry collaboration.

According to Dr Hii, industry engagement initiatives play an important role in bridging academic learning with workplace realities.

“Direct engagement with industry professionals helps students gain a clearer understanding of workplace expectations while building confidence, communication skills, and career awareness beyond the classroom,” she said.

The students responded enthusiastically to the programme, particularly valuing the opportunity to interact directly with professionals and experience a realistic interview setting.

One student participant described the session as highly insightful, saying it provided a clearer perspective on professional expectations and career preparation, while another shared that the experience was both meaningful and inspiring in preparing for future employment opportunities.

Beyond career preparation, the programme also strengthened ties between academia and industry, reinforcing the importance of collaborative efforts in developing future-ready graduates equipped with both technical knowledge and professional skills.
