Curtin Malaysia students place third for best paper presented at RECONSA

Miri – 12 October 2023 – Three students from Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia), namely Jessie Mary Embong Anak Felestine, Sharmine Anak Jerffary, and Alan Gabriel Juin, who are all members of Curtin Volunteers! (CV!), placed third in a Best Paper competition in conjunction with the Regional Conference on Student Activism (RECONSA) organised Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) at its campus in Perak from 6 to 7 October 2023.

The Curtin Volunteers! are a Curtin student body across all Curtin campuses dedicated to working with external stakeholders to support activities that benefit the wider community and enrich the Curtin student experience.

RECONSA, first held in 2012, aims to inculcate the spirit of volunteerism among youth, especially university students, in ASEAN. The annual conference that provides opportunities for students and volunteers to share their ideas, views, and experiences on volunteerism.

The Curtin team’s paper titled ‘Growing Hearts: The Influence of Volunteerism and Community Services Towards Character Development Amongst Youth’ was among 10 papers presented at the conference.

The participating universities were Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Curtin University Malaysia, Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Universiti Perguruan Sultan Idris, and Universitas Muhammadiah Surakarta in Indonesia.

Universitas Muhammadiah Surakarta won both the Best Paper and 2nd Best Paper awards, followed by Curtin Malaysia for 3rd Best Paper.
