Curtin Malaysia’s Department of Civil and Construction Engineering hosts Civil and Environmental Engineering Day event

Miri – 20 November 2023 – Curtin University Malaysia’s Department of Civil and Construction Engineering recently organised an engaging and educational Civil and Environmental Engineering Day aimed at introducing 57 students and five teachers from SMK Chung Hua Miri to the world of Civil and Construction Engineering and Environmental Engineering studies offered at Curtin Malaysia.

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Day allowed the students to gain valuable insights and explore the various aspects of these engineering disciplines. The event included a range of activities and competitions designed to enhance their understanding and foster their interest in pursuing a career in Civil and Construction Engineering and Environmental Engineering.

Divided into smaller groups, the students actively participated in two engineering competitions related to floating structures and biodiversity. These competitions aimed to provide practical exposure and hands-on experience in solving engineering challenges. Not only did this enable the students to showcase their problem-solving skills, but it also served as a platform for them to apply the knowledge they had acquired during the event.

Furthermore, the students had the opportunity to explore the stunning flora on the Curtin Malaysia campus. This activity highlighted the importance of biodiversity and the need for environmental preservation. By engaging with the natural surroundings, the students gained a deeper appreciation for sustainable practices and the crucial role that Environmental Engineering plays in creating a greener future.

Associate Professor Wong Kwong Soon, the head of Curtin Malaysia’s Department of Civil and Construction Engineering, expressed his satisfaction regarding the event. He commented, “It is our privilege to host the Civil and Environmental Engineering Day, as it allows us to inspire and educate the younger generation about the importance of these engineering disciplines. We hope to ignite a passion for engineering in these students and encourage them to consider pursuing a career in this exciting field.”

Curtin Malaysia’s Department of Civil and Construction Engineering is committed to fostering talent and developing future engineers who will contribute to the sustainable development of our society. Through events like Civil and Environmental Engineering Day, the department aims to provide students with valuable experiences, equip them with essential skills, and inspire them to become leaders in their chosen fields.
