Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business hosts Pink Ribbon Day event to support breast cancer awareness
Posted date:Miri – 2 November 2023 – Curtin University Malaysia’s Faculty of Business recently joined forces with United Overseas Bank Berhad (UOB), KPJ Miri Specialist Hospital, Miri Nutrition Centre, Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad, and Hot Cross Buns to organise a Pink Ribbon Day event aimed at raising breast cancer awareness. The event brought together students, faculty members, and members of the public, contributing to a supportive and informative atmosphere.
The Pink Ribbon Day event was designed to educate the community about breast cancer and empower individuals to make informed decisions regarding their health. In collaboration with the partners from the medical and corporate sectors, the event offered a variety of activities to raise awareness.
Breast cancer is a global issue that affects millions of individuals and their families. Meanwhile in Malaysia, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. The global Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Pink Ribbon Day marked by countries across the world serve as an occasion to honour survivors, remember those lost to the disease, and to support the progress the world is making to defeat breast cancer.
Dr. Ho Jie Min, the main coordinator of the Pink Ribbon Day event at Curtin Malaysia, said the Faculty of Business is committed to fostering a sense of community and responsibility and organised the event as a platform to engage the campus community and the larger local community in meaningful actions to enhance breast cancer awareness. It also sought to highlight the power of education and collective action in the fight against the disease.
The event was a resounding success, fostering joy, breast cancer awareness, and education. Prominent medical professionals and experts were invited to share their knowledge through talks and sharing sessions focused on breast cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment. These sessions provided valuable insights and information to the participants, helping them understand the importance of breast cancer awareness and equipping them with tools to promote positive health practices.
Additionally, the event featured free health screening for attendees, allowing them to assess their health status and identify potential areas of concern. Through these screenings, participants were encouraged to prioritise their well-being and seek necessary medical follow-ups, emphasising the significance of early detection in combating breast cancer.
The collaboration with the partners ensured the success of the Pink Ribbon Day event. Their support and dedication to breast cancer awareness exemplified their commitment to the community’s well-being, and the giveaways they sponsored for the attendees added an extra layer of excitement and engagement to the event.
