Curtin Open Bowling Competition open for public participation
Posted date:Miri – 22 August 2012 – Bowling enthusiasts in Miri are invited to participate in the 1st Curtin Open Bowling Competition alongside staff and students of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) on 8 September 2012.
The competition is being organised by the Curtin Bowling Club of the university and will be held on at Mega Lanes East in Bintang Megamall. 17 teams are expected to compete, including a team from neighbouring Brunei.
Up for grabs are prizes worth up to RM2,500. The team winning the grand prize will receive RM400 in cash, a hamper, trophies and certificates of participation. The first and second runner-up teams will receive cash prizes of RM300 and RM200 respectively, in addition to hampers, trophies and certificates.
There will also be categories for Top 3 Best Individual Male Players and Top 3 Best Individual Female Players.
Political Secretary to Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Dato’ Sebastian Ting will officiate at the event.
“We welcome anyone interested to participate and support our efforts to promote bowling as a healthy sporting activity,” said Curtin Bowling Club advisor and an associate lecturer in engineering mathematics Jameson Malang.
Meanwhile, President of the Curtin Bowling Club and third-year mechanical engineering student Henry Ngu Chu Lik said that this is the first bowling competition organised by the club that is open to the public as part of its efforts to organise more activities involving the local community.
“Our objective is to promote bowling as a healthy activity, build rapport with fellow bowling enthusiasts and members of the public, as well as encourage teamwork among our members,” said Ngu.
He added that the organising committee wishes to acknowledge Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui, Minister of Energy, Green Technology & Water; Captain Lau Choo Mee of Shin Yang Shipyard Sdn. Bhd.; Muhammad Yazid bin Abdul Sallam of Pos Mini Senadin and My Laundry; Shang Yang Company; and the Department of University Life, Curtin Sarawak for their generous sponsorship and support.
