Curtin Open Day for the community

Sunday, 9 September 2007 – The much anticipated Curtin Open Day 2007 hosted by Curtin University of Technology Sarawak is finally over. Approximately 4,000 people of all walks of Miri flocked to the Curtin Sarawak campus to join in the fun.

The main sponsors of Open Day namely Imperial Hotel, Bintang Plaza, Fratini’s, Michael Hair Salon, Schlumberger, Minda Travel, Halo Café, Majestic Leisure, Redbull, CIMA, Australian Education International, Castle Employment Service Agency and Miri Printing were present to support this community event.

There were free Redbull drinks for everyone who needed energy for the day, complimentary buffet dinner vouchers in Imperial Hotel to the winners of the Jalur Gemilang Merdeka Quiz, 2 day 1 night stay in Royal Mulu Resort vouchers, USB Drives, ipod nano, ipod shuffle, free movie passes, free bowling games, electronic sweepers, Nintendo Wii and other attractive prizes to be won.

“This is the first-ever Open Day held on such a big scale for the public,” said Yang Berhormat (Dr) Lee Kim Shin, Assistant Minister Infrastructure Development and Communication, Chairman of CSM Management Board during his official address at the Official Opening Ceremony of Curtin Open Day.

“Curtin Sarawak exists for the community and for this reason annual event like the Curtin Open Day 2007 becomes an important platform for the University to share its achievements. A university without the support of its community would be meaningless,” he added further.

“All activities, demonstrations, seminars and competitions will be running concurrently throughout the entire day so I am sure that everyone will have a chance to learn something new, experience something different and win something nice to take home!” exclaimed Professor John Evans, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Sarawak.
