Curtin Sarawak accounting students celebrate 10 years of excellence with campus event

Miri – 13 March 2012 – In conjunction with their tenth anniversary celebrations, the Accounting Club and CPA Australia Student Charter of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak), with the support of the Curtin Sarawak School of Business, will be organising ‘Accounting Week 2012’.

Carrying the theme ‘One Decade of Excellence’, it will feature an exhibition, forum and career talk, as well as a ‘Connection Night’ gathering for members of the Accounting Club Curtin Sarawak (ACCS) and CPA Australia Student Charter Curtin Sarawak (CPAASC).

The 3-day event from 14 to 16 March 2012 at the Curtin Sarawak campus is aimed at providing accounting students a platform to learn more about related professional bodies and seek professional advice on their courses and future careers from industry experts.

Among the exhibitors at the exhibition from 14 to 15 March will be the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), CPA Australia, Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad.

On 16 March, there will be a forum entitled ‘Employers’ Expectations of Graduates’ from 10.30 am to 12.00 noon featuring speakers from Shell, Ernst & Young and KPMG. The forum will discuss job opportunities in various industries and graduate attributes employers seek in potential employees. Participants will be charged a RM5 registration fee inclusive of lunch.

The forum will be followed by a career talk from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm. Representatives of ACCA, CPA Australia, MIA and MICPA will talk about their respective organisations, particularly their objectives and the benefits of accreditation and membership. In addition, KPMG will conduct a talk entitled ‘Tax as A Career Choice’.

Accounting Week 2012 will conclude with the ‘Connection Night’ gathering for all ACCS and CPAASC members from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm at the Recreation and Event Centre.

Ernst & Young, KPMG and CPA Malaysia are the main event sponsors. Other sponsors include ACCA, CPA Australia, MIA, CIMA and Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad.
