Curtin Sarawak appoints new Dean of School of Business

Miri – 25 November 2011 – Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) has appointed Dr Francois Therin as its new Dean of School of Business.

Dr Therin brings to the position a wealth of experience spanning over some 20 years. Prior to this appointment, Dr Therin was the Vice President of Academic Affairs a University College in creation in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

A French national, Dr Therin has held academic and administrative positions in leading institutions of higher learning including U21Global, an online graduate school that offers globally-recognised postgraduate programmes; Euromed Marseille Ecole de Management and Grenoble Ecole de Management in France.

He has also held visiting and adjunct positions at the University of Liverpool/Laureate online university, Robert Kennedy College in Switzerland, and Queensland University of Technology in Australia.

In addition, he has collaborated with as a consultant for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP)’s Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) the Krakow Technology Park in Poland, and the Anderson School of Management at University of California Los Angeles in the United States.

Dr Therin graduated with a Master of Management from Toulouse Graduate School of Business, France, in 1992 and Master by Research in Management from Institut d’Administration des Enterprises the following year. In 2004, he obtained his Doctorate in Business Administration from Newcastle University, United Kingdom, and Grenoble Ecole de Management, France.

Dr Therin’s teaching and research interests cover strategic management, technology and innovation management, and high-tech innovation for small firms and technoentrepreneurship.

He has published books on innovation and technology management and his research papers have been published in international journals as well as referred proceedings. He is also the Editor of the International Journal of Technoentrepreneurship.

His views on higher education have also been published in columns for The Guardian online edition and for University World News.

His aims as the new Dean of the School of Business include further enhancing the School of Business’ standing in the region, introducing new and exciting programmes, increasing the intake of international students, and working closely with Curtin’s main campus in Perth on research.

Dr Therin takes over the position from Shamsul Kamariah Abdullah, who held the position of Dean for over 3 years.
