Curtin Sarawak calling for participation in its first Postgraduate Colloquium
Posted date:Miri – 5 September 2011 – Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) is calling for participation in its Postgraduate Colloquium being organised by its School of Business on 1 and 2 December 2011.
The colloquium, the first for the university, is being organised as part of the School of Business’ continuing efforts to support postgraduate students by research.
It is aimed at providing a forum for students to present the progress of their work and obtain constructive feedback and comments from a panel of regional researchers, research reviewers, examiners and supervisors.
It will also provide opportunities for research students to engage in stimulating and thought-provoking dialogues, discover critical success factors for postgraduate thesis, discuss theories, and connect to individual research interests.
“Held in a collaborative, open and friendly environment of fellow research students and renowned academics, events such as this Curtin Postgraduate Colloquium encourage interdisciplinary investigations, forge close relationships, and help build strong research partnerships,” said event patron and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Sarawak, Professor Ian Kerr.
He added that such events are powerful platforms for postgraduate students to build research capacity and advance their academic careers, and feedback from similar forums organised in the region and around the world have been positive.
Keynote speakers for the Curtin Postgraduate Colloquium will include the Vice Chancellor of University Malaya, Professor Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ghauth Jasmonandthe Deputy Dean of the Centre for Graduate Studies, UNIMAS,Associate Professor Dr. Ernest De Run.
Postgraduate students with research components requiring theses or dissertations from universities in the region are invited to participate in the colloquium. Participation is freeand lunch and beverages provided, but participants will have to pay for their own travel and accommodation.
Those interested to participate can submit their applications (in PDF format) to dpgc2011.secretariat@curtin.edu.my by 31 October 2011. Applications should be accompanied by introductory letters in which the participants will indicate what they wish to obtain from the colloquium and what they will be bringing to the colloquium; one-page research statements on the research they will pursue (if they are at the dissertation stage, the statements should focus on their dissertations); and their curriculum vitae.
