Curtin Sarawak offers PhD Scholarships

MIRI, 12 June, 2006 – In supporting the efforts to promote Curtin University of Technology Sarawak (Curtin Sarawak) as a hub for education and research excellence, the School of Engineering is offering five (5) scholarships in terms of tuition fee waiver in pursuance of a PhD study by research.

Associate Professor Chua Han Bing, Director, School of Engineering, Curtin Sarawak said,

“As approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, a Master/PhD study by research is offered at Curtin Sarawak’s School of Engineering. The scholarships are available to excellent prospective PhD students for all engineering areas, but a higher priority will be given to those who are interested doing research in the areas of Biotechnology, Information & Communication Technology and Advanced Manufacturing & Materials. In doing their research, the students will be jointly supervised by staff from Curtin Sarawak and Curtin Bentley Australia. The scholarships are opened to all nationalities, but priority is given to Malaysians.”

Completed application packages can also be submitted in person and/or email to Ms Vivian Aren Imang, Admission Officer at vivian.i@curtin.edu.my) for processing by the Divisional Graduate Studies Committee. A letter of offer will be sent to all successful applicants.

Curtin Sarawak was established in February 1999 in partnership with the Sarawak Government, it is the first offshore campus of the Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia and also the first foreign university campus to be set up in East Malaysia. In November 1999, Curtin Sarawak was awarded the Multimedia Super Corridor status. In December 2004, Curtin Sarawak was awarded the prestigious IRPA grant (Intensification of Research in Priority Areas) from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
