Curtin Sarawak organises 5th Foundation Certificate Ceremony 2007

MIRI, Friday, 4 May 2007 – 237 Foundation Studies students graduated today in an official Graduation Ceremony held on Curtin University of Technology Sarawak.

The 5th Foundation Certificate Ceremony was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dr Lee Kim Shin, Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Communication, Sarawak.

“Learning is a process not an event. You would think that learning would be over when you received your doctorate. It’s not true. You should never stop learning,” advised YB Lee Kim Shin during his speech.

“As Malaysia is moving towards the K-economy, new knowledge and new interpretation and application of knowledge are continuously being sought to enhance the economic and social activities of the society,” he advised further.

“We are grateful that our students are participating in this memorable event which celebrates their accomplishments,” says Dr. Adeline Wong, Registrar of Curtin Sarawak.

“There is a significant increase of students enrolled for Foundation Studies compared to the previous years. We know that our program is gaining more credibility and recognition because we are getting the siblings of our graduates joining our program,” she added further.

“Being in Curtin University is not all about studies but also to enjoy the facilities or participate in different activities held either by the University or the student clubs and committees,” shared Ong Mei Vun, one of the Foundation Studies graduate who is currently pursuing her first year in Bachelor of Commerce.

“I am actively involved in many student clubs such as Curtin Volunteers! and Leo Club. To me, this experience gained will only broaden my knowledge and build my inner personal strength,” she exclaimed further.

“Big organizations today do not just look for people who excel academically, they also seek for people with social interaction skills and someone who can manage their time well with different activities,” commented YB Lee. The event ended with a multi-cultural performance performed by International students from the University and a band performance by the Curtin Music Club.
