Curtin Sarawak students learn from stock trading and investment expert

Miri – 18 June 2012 – The Curtin Finance and Investment Club (CFIC) of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) recently organised a stock trading talk for students of the university in collaboration with the Curtin Sarawak School of Business. It featured Leong Wei Ping, a stock trading expert and leading investment specialist, as the guest speaker.

Leong is an alumnus of Curtin University’s main campus in Bentley and has 13 years of experience in dealing in forex, stocks and options trading. He was a master practitioner and coach of the American Board of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and two-time champion of options trading in 2006 and 2007.

He was also an auditor with KPMG, Singapore, and was the first Asian to be formally invited to visit the Chicago Board of Options Exchange after the September 11 attacks in the United States.

During the talk, Leong shared anecdotes of his experiences as a successful day trader with the participants. He also spoke about why one should become a trader, the different types of traders, and pursuing success in trading.

He delved into stock market operations and gave the participants tips on making the most out of their investments and making informed decisions in managing their wealth and investments.

President of CFIC, Charlie Hoh, said the club is proud to organise the event and was most pleased with the response from the over 300 participants comprising students, lecturers and staff, as well as members of the public. He said, given the positive response, the club plans to hold more of such events in the near future.

Meanwhile, CFIC secretary Terry Lam commented that the event presented an opportunity for students, particularly finance students, to learn beyond textbooks and lectures.

“The talk was a good example of how students can learn from the experiences of experts and leaders from relevant industries. It exposes our students to the real world and helps them build a strong foundation for their future careers,” remarked Lam.

CFIC was established in September 2011 and is the only financial club for students at Curtin Sarawak. Its main objective is to build a promising future for students of all disciplines by providing the financial knowledge and skills to manage their personal wealth. In addition to finance education, the club also provides students a gateway or stepping stone to the professional world, helping open up career opportunities for them.

The club is currently seeking sponsorship from interested individuals or organisations to fund its activities. For further information, visit its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cfic.curtin.
