Curtin Volunteers! to raise funds for Palliative Care Association
Posted date:Miri – 4 October 2012 – The Curtin Volunteers! (CV!) of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) will be organising their CV! 10th Anniversary Dinner and Fundraising Event on Saturday, 6 October 2012 at The Pavilion, ParkCity Everly Hotel Miri.
Themed ‘Celebrate and Give Back’, the dinner will be held from 7.00 to 10.30 pm.
The event’s dual objectives are to celebrate the achievements of the CV! over the last ten years and encourage the continued spirit of volunteerism among them, and to raise funds through public and corporate sponsorship for the Palliative Care Association Miri (PCAM).
The PCAM recently established a permanent centre providing palliative care services to members of the community and families who are dealing with chronic diseases and life-threatening illnesses.
Besides current volunteers, former students of Curtin Sarawak who were in the CV!, as well as the sponsors, will also be attending.
The guest of honour will be Assistant Minister of Communication and Assistant Minister of Sport, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is the chairman of the Curtin Sarawak Management Board.
The Curtin Sarawak CV! is the Malaysian chapter of Curtin Volunteers!, Australia’s first and largest student-run volunteer organisation established in 1994, and a significant contributor to campus life at the university’s campuses in Australia and internationally, as well as to their local communities and the environment.
Its vision is to create community-minded citizens and its mission is to provide opportunities for personal and professional development and encourage education through experience. Its volunteers create and support community initiatives which are mutually beneficial and seek to build bridges locally and internationally.
Curtin Sarawak’s Curtin Volunteers! is the largest and one of the most active student volunteer organisations at the campus. Since its inception in 2002, it has been assisting Curtin students, staff, and the wider community in Miri to experience the many benefits of volunteerism.
It regularly organises activities and projects such as blood donation drives, beach cleaning campaigns, charity fundraisers, and community outreach projects in support of rural communities and local charities such as the Miri Sunflower Centre, Miri Palliative Care Association, Piasau Animal Welfare Support (PAWS) Miri, Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS), Methodist Children’s Home and Miri Mental Health Association.
Staff and students of Curtin Sarawak as well as members of the public are invited to attend this dinner.
