Discover your career prospects at Curtin Career Fair 2011

Miri – 19 September 2011 – Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) is once again holding its annual Curtin Career Fair to give job-seekers and potential employers the opportunity to meet and discuss current issues pertaining to various industries, the job market, and career opportunities available.

The 2-day Curtin Career Fair 2011 themed Get Connected is being organised by Curtin Career & Alumni Services section of Curtin Sarawak’s University Life Department and will be held in the university’s Recreation and Event Centre from 22 to 23 September 2011.

The event presents an excellent opportunity for job-seekers residing in Miri and neighbouring towns and districts, including current students and alumni of Curtin Sarawak, to meet representatives of leading employers in the city and elsewhere.

The employers include AmAssurance, Berjaya Dockyard, CPA Australia, Daiken Miri, Greenbase Sepadud, JobsCentral Malaysia, JobStreet.Com, Jotun Malaysia, KTS Group, Mega Borneo, Outofthebox Personal Development, Philip Morris Malaysia, Piasau Slipways, Press Metal Sarawak, Samling Group of Companies, Speedwing Malaysia, Sunshine Borneo Tours & Travel, Tokuyama Malaysia, Walton International and the Labour Department, Miri.

University Life Manager Haslina Abdul Malek expects a good response from Curtin Sarawak’s students and alumni, and encourages members of the public who are keen to advance their careers with the participating employers to attend as well.

“Many of those who visited the Curtin Career Fair in the past have benefitted from the contacts made with the participating employers and successfully gained employment with them. A number of our students were offered positions even before they graduated. And as many of the companies are either located outside Miri or are local companies with branches or subsidiaries elsewhere, the potential for employment in other locations, including overseas, is great,” she said.

She added that, for Curtin Sarawak’s students, the Curtin Career Fair offers the platform to network with some of the university’s leading industry partners. Final year tertiary students, in particular, can take advantage of the fair to secure employment upon graduation or to network for future reference.

The event will begin with registration of participating employers and booth setup between 8.30 am and 9.00 am on 22 September 2011, followed by a welcoming morning tea break and welcoming speech by the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Curtin Sarawak, Professor Ian Kerr, at 9.00 am. It is open to all and admission is free.

Last year, an estimated number of 500 visitors attended the fair and the it is hoped that many more will take advantage of the opportunities this year’s event will offer.
