Electronic exhibition a hit

Miri – 7 October 2011 – The recent Electronic Exhibition 2011 organised by the Institution of of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Student Branch of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) proved a big hit with students of the university and members of the public, including a group of visiting lecturers from University of Nottingham, Malaysia.
The 2-day exhibition, held at the university with support from its Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, attracted several hundred visitors keen to view demonstrations of renewable energy kits, Lab View-controlled robots and other interesting electronic gadgets.
According to organising chairman and Curtin Sarawak IEEE Student Branch president Oo Kean Cherng, the main objective of the event was to promote the Curtin Sarawak IEEE Student Branch, the achievements of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, as well as the benefits of studying electrical and computer engineering at Curtin Sarawak.
In addition, it was an opportunity for Curtin Sarawak’s Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) students to showcase their competition entries and practical projects, and to help their fellow students relate theories learnt in textbooks to real world applications.
The exhibition was launched by the Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Sarawak, Professor Alistair Inglis. The launch included a demonstration of Curtin Sarawak’s smart car entry in the Smart Car Competition 2011 held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 14 to 15 September 2011.
A team of ECE students from Curtin Sarawak took part in the competition also known as the Freescale Cup, which pits teams of undergraduate engineering students from various institutions of higher learning against each other.
IEEE, founded in the United States, is the world’s largest technical professional society and serves to advance innovation and technology for the benefit of humanity. Its members consist of professionals from the electrical, electronic and computing fields as well as areas related to science and technology.
