Foundation and Diploma programme enrolments at Curtin Sarawak now extended to 31 March
Posted date:Miri – 25 Mar 2011 – Due to the huge response from Form Five students who just received their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results only on 23 March 2011, Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) has decided to extend the intake date for its foundation and diploma programmes from 25 March to 31 March 2011.
Students enrolling during this special intake will be provided replacement classes and consultations for the sessions they have missed (classes commenced on 7 March 2011).
In addition, the School of Foundation and Continuing Studies at the university will be holding an Awareness Day event on 1 April 2011 for all new students enrolled at the school to help them familiarise themselves with the relevant processes and procedures, including delivery modes, assessments, and the school’s advisory programme.
The foundation programmes are the Foundation Commerce and Arts, which prepares students for undergraduate study in Arts, Commerce and Social Sciences, and the Foundation Engineering and Science, a programme that prepares students for undergraduate study in Engineering and Science, Computing and Information Technology.
Diploma programmes at Curtin Sarawak, meanwhile, comprise the Diploma of Business, Diploma of Process Plant Technology (Oil Industry) and Diploma of Occupational Safety and Health.
According to Beena Giridharan, Dean of the School of Foundation and Continuing Studies, the foundation and diploma programmes offer distinct advantages to students through modern, diversified teaching methods, academic support through the schools’ advisory programme, as well as individual one-on-one consultations with the academic staff.
“The programmes aim to develop critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and introduce students to research methods through group projects and assignments. Students will have access to our highly advanced technological support, such as our laboratories, the learning management systems we use, and library access both for print and online resources through the databases that we subscribe to,” Beena said.
For assistance with enrolment, interested students can contact the university’s Student Recruitment Department at 085-443 939 or e-mail enquiries@curtin.edu.my.
Extension allows students who have just received their SPM results to enrol in foundation and diploma programmes at Curtin Sarawak.
