Fourth and fifth formers invited to join Curtin Young Associates

Miri – 16 March 2011 – Fourth and fifth formers of local secondary schools are invited to be members of the ‘Curtin Young Associates’ (CYA), Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak)’s club exclusively for secondary school students.

It is particularly beneficial students who are interested to know more about the requirements for higher education, or would like to benefit from useful tips to help them study and prepare for examinations more effectively.

They can also stay up-to-date on happenings and developments on the Curtin Sarawak campus, make friends with other students, including Curtin Sarawak students, through the CYA network, as well as participate in interesting activities and online competitions exclusively for CYA members.

Activities and events lined up for the year include an ICT Career Camp, ‘Young Photographer Contest’, CYA Sports Meet, Exam Skills Clinic, English Essay Writing Challenge, study workshops and poster design competitions.

The CYA, which was launched last year, currently has a membership of over 200, and the university’s Marketing Department which coordinates the CYA programme, is on a recruitment drive to boost its membership. Membership in the CYA is free.

Marketing officer and coordinator of the CYA programme Norsari John said, “We encourage those who are interested to be a part of this exciting programme to sign up immediately to enjoy the full benefits of membership.”

She added that membership is open to not just students in Miri, but also other locations in Sarawak.

Those interested can register for membership online by logging onto the CYA website at www.curtin.edu.my/cya or by downloading a membership from www.curtin.edu.my/cya/application_form.php and sending it to the CYA Coordinator, Marketing Department, Curtin University Sarawak Malaysia, CDT 250, 98009 Miri, Sarawak (or alternatively, faxing it to 085-443 838).

Applicants are encouraged to indicate in their forms their areas of interest, for example, whether they are interested in science, mechanical or technical, artistic or creative pursuits; computers or the Internet; interacting or socialising with others; organising events and activities; nature and the environment, and so on. This is ensure that all CYA events and activities are geared towards the interests of its members.
