Internship and employment opportunities for Curtin Malaysia students and graduates at leading Bintulu hotel
Posted date:Miri – 3 March 2023 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) and Greens Hotel & Suites Bintulu signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday for collaboration in offering internship and job opportunities for Curtin Malaysia students and graduates. Tourism and hospitality-related research opportunities will also be explored under the MoU.
Signing on behalf of the university was Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Simon Leunig while Greens Hotel & Suites’ Assistant Operations Manager Mone Ejam signed for the hotel.
Also present were Dean of Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business, Professor Andreas Zins, and the faculty’s associate deans of external engagement, learning and teaching, research and development, as well as the head, senior lecturers and associate lecturers of its Department of Management, Marketing and Digital Business.
Also representing Greens Hotel & Suites at the signing was Sales and Marketing Executive Morlina Mohammed and Food and Beverage Executive Maria Sutzy.
Prof. Leunig thanked Greens Hotel & Suites Bintulu for its keenness to provide internship opportunities, including the provision of meals and wages, for Curtin Malaysia‘s students, which is a requirement for most of the courses it offers.
“This should prove quite attractive for our students in relevant courses, especially those in the Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and Tourism and Hospitality double major, and possibly those in our Diploma of Commerce programme as well,” he said.
He added that the benefits of internship at the hotel would be two-fold. Greens Hotel & Suites Bintulu would gain from the fresh insights, latest theories, techniques and ideas the students will bring to their jobs, and the students in turn will have the opportunity to gain valuable industry exposure and better understand actual industry practice during their internships.
Under the MoU, Greens Hotel & Suites Bintulu will endeavour to give the internship students job placements upon graduation under a graduate trainee programme to be jointly developed with the university
“On our part, as we also value authentic learning and are committed to developing graduate capabilities through embedding Work Integrated Learning in our courses, we will ensure that as many of our students as possible avail themselves to these opportunities with Greens Hotel & Suites Bintulu,” said Prof. Leunig.
Meanwhile, Mone thanked Curtin Malaysia for agreeing to collaborate with Greens Hotel & Suites in a partnership that will greatly benefit both parties, especially the students and graduates. He said the hotel looked forward to having Curtin Malaysia students interning soon and eventually securing permanent positions after they graduate from their courses.
