Largest number of employers to be represented at Curtin Career Fair 2012

Miri – 14 September 2011 –The Curtin Career Fair 2012 at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) on 21 and 22 September 2012 will see the largest-ever number of employers being represented.

Job-seekers in and around Miri, including current students and alumni of Curtin Sarawak, are invited to visit the fair which will be held in university’s Recreation and Event Centre from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm on both days. It is open to all and admission is free.

The event is being organised by the Career & Alumni Services section of Curtin Sarawak’s University Life Department in collaboration of the university’s School of Engineering and Science and School of Business.

It will offer job-seekers a variety of career choices as well as the opportunity to meet representatives from the leading employers in the city and elsewhere and discuss issues pertaining to various industries, the job market, and career opportunities available.

The participating employers include Speedwing Malaysia, JobsCentral Malaysia, KPMG, Tokuyama Malaysia, Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit, Samling Group of Companies, JobStreet.Com, Berjaya Dockyard, Shimano Components, EXEC Asia Consulting, Nestle Products, CIMB Group, Maybank, Shell People Services (Asia), Pejabat Tenaga Kerja and Destiny Properties.

Also participating will be Piasau Slipways, Borneo Safety Training Services, Dai Lieng Machinery, Tan Chong Group, ParkCity Everly Hotel, Petronas, Sime Darby Holdings, Sarawak Oil Palm Berhad, Wehaya Sdn. Bhd., Crowe Horwath, CPA Australia, Sarawak Information System (SAINS), CIMB Wealth Advisor, Sarawak Tourism Board, Prudential Assurance (M) Berhad and Jotun (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.

With the participation of leading companies from various industries this year, University Life Manager Haslina Malek expects a good turnout of both Curtin Sarawak’s students and alumni as well as members of the public who are keen to advance their careers.

“We are looking forward to a great response this year to compliment our huge success in attracting a large number of employers from the different industries. Our partners are definitely on a lookout for talents and we encourage all to make it a point to visit our fair to network with them,” said Haslina.

She attributes the success to the intensified networking efforts of the Career & Alumni Office and the two schools.

“Many of those who visited the Curtin Career Fair in the past have benefitted from the contacts made with the participating employers and successfully gained employment with them. A number of our students were offered positions even before they graduated. And as many of the companies are either located outside Miri or are local companies with branches or subsidiaries elsewhere, the potential for employment in other locations, including overseas, is great,” she added.

She also said that, for Curtin Sarawak’s students, the Curtin Career Fair offers the platform to network with some of the university’s leading industry partners. Final year students, in particular, can take advantage of the fair to secure employment upon graduation or to network for future reference.
