Leo Environmental Project to promote recycling
Posted date:Miri – 12 September 2012 – The Leo Club of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) is organising a ‘Leo Environmental Project’ featuring the innovative use of recyclable items at Bintang Megamall on 14 September 2012.
The project themed ‘Go Render the Environment Ever New’ will showcase recycling projects, banner and sculpture making competitions, and a fashion show.
It is aimed at creating awareness of the importance of recycling, reusing and reducing used items, as well as enabling the participants to share knowledge and ideas. It is also part of the green initiatives of Lions Club of District 308-A2.
The event, which is being supported by Curtin Sarawak, Lions Club of Miri Host District 308-A2 and Bintang Megamall, will be held from 1.30 pm to 6 pm on the ground floor of the mall’s new wing.
Students of six secondary schools in Miri are expected to participate, namely SM Pei Min, SMK Baru, SMK Chung Hua, SMK Saint Joseph, SMK Riam Taman Tunku and SMK Lutong.
The highlight of the event will be the fashion show, which will test the creativity of the students in designing costumes using recyclable materials. The winning schools will win cash prizes amounting to RM1,200.
The public is encouraged to donate recyclable items such as newspapers and aluminium cans to the project. Proceeds from the sale of the items will go to charity.
