Optimisation and optimal control workshop at Curtin Sarawak

Miri – 24 April 2012 – Curtin Sarawak Research Institute (CSRI), the multi-disciplinary research institute at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak), will be holding the first of a series of workshops on Optimisation and Optimal Control tomorrow.

It will be held from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon in the Council Room, Level 1, Heron 1 (John Curtin Building) at the university campus and is open to anyone interested in the area of optimisation and optimal control. Participation is free.

The workshop will provide a forum to develop an understanding about optimisation and optimal control tools and methods, to share research results, and to discuss problems and new developments.

It will be facilitated by Professor Teo Kok Lay who is a John Curtin Distinguished Professor at Curtin University’s main campus in Perth, Australia.

Professor Teo’s research encompasses both the theoretical and practical aspects of optimal control and optimisation, and his work has found applications in many fields including financial portfolio, process control, signal processing, power systems, chemical mixing and aerospace modelling. His research output includes five books and more than 400 journal papers.

CSRI is committed to collaborating with distinguished professors from around the world to drive research excellence in the region.

At CSRI, Professor Teo collaborates closely with Curtin Sarawak staff to strengthen their research. Curtin Sarawak already has a strong track record in developing optimisation solutions in diverse areas ranging from process simulation, modelling, control and optimisation, inverse analysis, materials and structural optimisation as well as signal processing.
