PETRONAS Officers visit Curtin Sarawak

MIRI, 14 June 2006 –Personnel from Petronas Malaysia headed by En Rahim Razali, Senior Manager in the Education department paid a visit to the campus of Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak (Curtin Sarawak) recently.

With the increase in market demand for geosciences and petroleum engineering graduates in the near future and as Curtin Sarawak has developed a reputation of producing excellent quality graduates which is in great demand in the industry, Petronas Malaysia is working closely with Curtin Sarawak to introduce additional courses in these fields.

A  tour around the campus of Curtin Sarawak was conducted to showcase the state-of-the-art purpose-built, world-class facility campus in a garden and lakes, modern and stylish architecturally designed buildings,  equipment, facilities and sophisticated IT linkages.

The visit concluded with a fruitful dialogue session and lunch together with Petronas scholarship students who are currently studying in various engineering and geo sciences programmes in Curtin Sarawak. The delegates were pleased to know that their scholars at Curtin Sarawak are performing well in their studies providing an excellent, conducive learning environment for their scholars.

Curtin Sarawak was established in February 1999 in partnership with the Sarawak Government. It is the first offshore campus of the Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia and also the first foreign university campus to be set up in East Malaysia. In November 1999, Curtin Sarawak was awarded the Multimedia Super Corridor status. In December 2004, Curtin Sarawak was awarded the prestigious IRPA grant (Intensification of Research in Priority Areas) from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
