PKF Malaysia representatives highlight career opportunities in accounting to Curtin students
Posted date:Miri – 16 May 2023 – In an effort to connect with the next generation of accounting professionals, two representatives of PKF Malaysia, namely Chau Man Kit and Chok Sim Lieu, recently conducted a briefing session for final-year accounting students of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia).
The event, hosted by Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business, was aimed at introducing the students to the accounting industry in Malaysia and showcasing the various career opportunities available in the field.
PKF Malaysia is the Malaysian arm of PKF International and one of the leading accounting firms in the country. With offices in 440 cities, PKF is present in 150 countries across five continents and specialises in providing high-quality audit, accounting, tax and business advisory services to international and domestic organisations.
During the briefing session, Chau shared his firsthand experience and insights into the industry, including typical job responsibilities, career paths, and potential growth opportunities.
The event also involved a panel discussion during which the PKF Malaysia representatives fielded questions from the students, and provided information about internship and employment opportunities with the firm. They also conducted an open interview session for those students keen to pursue professional careers with the firm.
Yip Ka Yii, associate dean of external engagement at the Faculty of Business and coordinator of the event, said the Faculty of Business looks forward to further opportunities to host similar university-industry collaborations in the future for the benefit of its students.
“We were delighted to have the two representatives from PKF engage with our students to showcase career paths in accounting, and share PKF Malaysia’s experience as a firm that delivers world-class accounting advisory, audit and services,” said Yip.
“We believe it is essential to introduce our students to the accounting industry to give them a glimpse of what a career in accounting entails before they graduate.”
More than 20 students participated in the event and were appreciative of the opportunity to learn more about the accounting industry that they would be joining fairly soon, which has excellent potential for career growth and advancement.
Curtin Malaysia offers Curtin’s three-year Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, which helps students develop expertise in areas such as auditing, taxation, insolvency, compliance, accounting systems and technology. Accounting is also offered in a double-major combination with Finance, where students can develop additional skills in corporate finance for big business.
Graduates will have opportunities to join the accounting and finance industries as accountants, auditors, company secretaries, tax agents and consultants, business analysts, and stockbrokers, to name a few.
The Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting is recognised by professional bodies like CPA Australia, ACCA, Chartered Accountants ANZ, CIMA, and MICPA, and with that comes improved career prospects for graduates, assurance of the highest academic and industry standards, networking opportunities, and access to professional development programmes offered by the various bodies.
