Prime Minister makes official visit to Curtin Sarawak

MIRI, 10 February 2007 – Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia, visited Curtin University of Technology Miri, Sarawak (Curtin Sarawak) for the first time today to officiate commencement of the Phase II Development by signing the plaque.

“We are very honoured to have the Prime Minister visit us and are proud to showcase to Yang Amat Berhormat our beautiful campus,” states Professor John Evans, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Sarawak.

“The campus is the first offshore campus of Curtin University of Technology Western Australia,”

Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi received his Honorary Doctorate of Technology from Curtin University of Technology Western Australia on 22 February 2006 in Perth. At the time of the presentation, the Prime Minister delivered a public address entitled “Ethnic and religious diversity as a source of strength for nation building”.

The award of Honorary Doctorate, the highest the University can bestow, was conferred on the Prime Minister in recognition of his commitment to education, his personal attributes and Curtin’s long-standing and highly valued relationship with Malaysia.

Yang Amat Berhormat was given a warm welcome by the staff and students of Curtin Sarawak with a campus tour, a welcome remark by Professor John Evans, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Sarawak followed with a presentation of the University’s corporate video.

Yang Berhormat Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam, Chairman of Curtin Sarawak Council, Yang Amat Berhormat Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, Chief Minister of Sarawak were also present to give a speech for this special event followed by a speech by the Prime Minister, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Abdullah Bin Haji Ahmad Badawi.
