Special activities for children at Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2012
Posted date:Miri – 11 September 2012 – Children attending the Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2012 at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) on 15 September 2012 can look forward to a great time at the event’s ‘Kiddies Corner’.
Located in the event hall of the university’s Recreation & Event Centre, it will feature a number of attractions for children of all ages.
They include clowns and cartoon character mascots, bouncy castles, a colouring competition, cultural dance performance, fashion show, spelling bee, and a variety of children’s games and activities like face painting, board games, sand art and handicrafts.
The fun will start at 10.00 am with an introduction to the clowns and mascots following pre-registration for the day’s competitions, games and activities. Early birds will have the opportunity to mingle and be photographed with the clowns and mascots, including characters from the popular cartoon Madagascar.
This will be followed by cultural dance performances by pupils of Tadika Cahaya Bintang and Tadika Sri Indah from 10.15 am onwards.
Budding artists amongst the children will be thrilled to take part in the colouring competition, which will be held from 11.00 am to 12 noon. The competition will be divided into two categories, Category A for children aged five to eight and Category B for children aged nine to 12. Interested parents can register their children on the day between 9.30 to 10.00 am. Only crayons are allowed to be used and children participating in the competition are advised to bring their own.

Attractive prizes such as hampers and art class vouchers sponsored by Curtin Sarawak and Global Arts respectively await the top three winners in each session. There will also be a number of consolation prizes.
A fashion show with an environmental theme will be held at 2.00 pm where participants are required to wear costumes made from recyclable materials. They will be judged based on personality, creativity in costumes, replies to a Q&A session and overall performance.
At 3.00 pm, there will be Spelling Bee for children aged 6 years and below. The top three winners will win cash prizes.
Curtin Sarawak Open Day is that special occasion each year when the university opens its doors to the community, inviting them to visit its campus and participate in a variety of interesting activities in a festive and fun atmosphere.
