SPM and STPM leavers invited to meet with Yayasan Sarawak representatives for Teh Tarik Session at Curtin Malaysia

Miri – 21 July 2023 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is collaborating with Yayasan Sarawak to host a ‘The Tarik Session’ at its campus from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm on 25 July 2023. The casual event will be an opportunity for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Pelajaran Tinggi Malaysia (STPM) leavers and their parents to engage with Yayasan Sarawak representatives and explore options of scholarships and financial aid offered by the foundation, as well as foundation, diploma, and undergraduate degree programmes offered by the university.

Curtin Malaysia is the highest-ranked institution in Borneo based on Curtin’s outstanding achievements in the global university rankings, including being in the top one per cent of universities globally in the highly-acclaimed Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2022, and 183rd in the world in the highly-regarded QS World University Rankings (QSWUR) 2024.

Curtin Malaysia offers a variety of quality and industry-relevant programmes in engineering and science, information technology, business, media, and more. Students interested in pursuing further studies in these fields are encouraged to attend the event to find out more, and also make applications on the spot if they choose to do so. Student recruiters from the university will be on hand to provide all the information they need to make informed decisions on pathways, courses and enrolment.

Students who wish to apply for placements at Curtin Malaysia during the event are advised to bring copies of their SPM or STPM results and copies of their MyKad. If their applications are successful, they will be eligible to start their classes the following week.

The Yayasan Sarawak representatives, meanwhile, who will include Deputy Director (Education) Louis Simon Peter and officers from the foundation’s Education Loan and Loan repayment sections, will brief the students on the Yayasan Sarawak scholarships and study loans available to Sarawakian students. As Curtin Malaysia is one of five institutions of higher learning in Sarawak owned by the Sarawak government, the scholarships and loans are applicable for studies at the university.

In addition to the Teh Tarik Session, they will also set up a booth at the campus where both school leavers and Curtin Malaysia students can enquire about the support and services Yayasan Sarawak provides.
