Visitors to Curtin Open Day stand to win attractive lucky draw prizes

Miri – 7 September 2011 – Visitors to the Curtin Open Day 2011 at the campus of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) this Saturday stand to win attractive lucky draw prizes worth over RM15,000, including iPad2s, iPod Shuffles, iPod Touches, Dell Inspiron notebook PCs, Olympus digital cameras, and hotel and restaurant vouchers.

The event will feature hourly lucky draws and two Grand Prize Draws at 12 noon and 3 pm respectively. All purchasers of coupons for the event are eligible for the lucky draws.

Coupons went on sale to the public at leading shopping complexes by the university’s Student Council over the last weekend and additional coupons will be sold at the its booth during the event.

The Curtin Open Day 2011 with the theme Make Tomorrow Better will from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm this Saturday and is open to the public.

It will feature an ‘Innovation Expo’ showcasing how Curtin Sarawak is ‘making tomorrow better’ through innovation, research and development, teaching and learning, and its holistic approach to education, as well as a ‘Future Students Booth’ where potential students and their parents can learn more about what Curtin Sarawak has to offer in terms of academic programmes, facilities and campus life.

Students can also learn more about Curtin Sarawak through a series of academic talks on undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered, and fifth and sixth formers, in particular, will benefit from a study skills workshop that will help them prepare for the upcoming SPM and STPM examinations.

In addition, there will be an ‘Environmental Corner’ where the Miri City Council will showcase its environmental initiatives; ‘Charity & Community Corner’ participated by some 15 non-governmental organisations promoting their various causes; ‘Bike Show’ featuring big bikes, scooters and electric motorcycles and bicycles; as well as a blood donation drive and free health checks, a wide range of food and beverage, retail and games stalls; and live musical and stage performances.

Children visiting Curtin Open Day 2011 will delight in the ‘Kiddies Corner’ featuring clowns and cartoon character mascots, bouncy castles, sand art and video games for their enjoyment, as well as a colouring competition, spelling bee and stage performances.

“Curtin Open Day is that special occasion each year when we would invite the community to visit our campus and participate in a variety of interesting activities in a festive and fun atmosphere,” said organising chairman Nicholas Leong.
