120 students take part in ‘The Great Escape Plan’ Camp at Curtin Malaysia

Miri – 2 July 2019 – 120 students from eight secondary schools in Miri participated in the 3-day ‘The Great Escape Plan’ Camp at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently.

The camp, which has been held annually since 2014, was facilitated by the Curtin Social Ambassadors (CSA), a student body at Curtin Malaysia dedicated to promoting tertiary education to secondary school students through events such as camps, workshops and talks.

The participating students were from SMK Chung Hua, SM Sains Miri, SMK St. Columba, Riam Road Secondary School, SMK Pujut, SMK Lopeng Tengah, Pei Min Middle School and Tenby International School, Miri.

Organising chairperson Ji Wei Suen said that the camp, themed ‘New Chapter’, featured a range of engaging collaborative and interactive activities to help the students develop critical soft skills such as teamwork, leadership and effective communication. It also gave them a taste of the campus life at Curtin Malaysia.

One of the participating students described that the camp as a weekend full of fun and laughter. She said the games and team building challenges helped to instil many positive values and expressed satisfaction in the way the camp was organised, as well as the opportunity to make many new friends.

The camp was sponsored by Piasau State Assemblyman Dato Sebastian Ting, Miri Powerline Electrical Engineering Sdn. Bhd., Yong Seng Development Enterprise Sdn. Bhd., Belle’s Bookshop, Ice Garden Miri, Goodview Aerial Photography & Videography Services and Ayam Brand.
