Community leaders visit Curtin Sarawak

Miri – 10 November 2010 – Over 300 community leaders attending the Miri Division Community Leaders’ Seminar here in Miri recently visited the campus of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) as part of their seminar itinerary.

The familiarisation visit was jointly organised by the Miri Resident’s Office and Curtin Sarawak.

The community leaders, who included village and longhouse chiefs from the interior, were greatly impressed with the university’s scenic campus, where the stylish architecture of its buildings modelled on those at Curtin’s main campus in Perth, Western Australia, complement its state-of-the-art facilities.

The purpose of their visit was also to learn more about educational opportunities for local area students at Curtin Sarawak. Staff of the university’s Corporate Communications and Student Recruitment Departments, as well as a number of student volunteers, were on hand to brief them on the wide range of academic programmes, services and facilities available.

In addition, they were briefed on the uniqueness of Curtin Sarawak being a full-fledged branch campus of an international university, and the synergy it has with its mother campus in Perth and other Curtin campuses in Western Australia, Sydney and Singapore.

The entry requirements for the various pre-university and undergraduate programmes, as well as scholarships and study loans for students, were also highlighted.

The community leaders were shown the campus laboratories, lecture halls, tutorial classrooms, and sports facilities, and later, experienced dining at the campus food court.
