Curtin Malaysia hosting International Conference on Materials Technology and Energy in November

Miri – 5 September 2019 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is hosting the 2nd International Conference on Materials Technology and Energy (ICMTE 2019) at its campus from 6 to 8 November 2019.

Co-organised with The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Miri Branch and the Institution of Materials Malaysia (IMM) Miri Chapter with support from the Sarawak Convention Bureau, ICMTE 2019 will focus on advanced technology for construction and engineering, as well as renewable energy and environmental issues.

It will provide a platform for researchers, engineers and academics from some 10 countries to exchange knowledge and ideas, and discuss innovations, trends and future challenges related to materials technology and energy.

The conference’s keynote and plenary speakers will comprise Dato’ Dr. Ir. Mohd. Abdul Karim Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Serba Dinamik Holdings Berhad; Professor Mohd. Nasir Tamin of University Teknologi Malaysia; Dr. Yang Wenming of National University of Singapore; Dr. Chong Wen Tong of University of Malaya; Dr. Suvash C. Saha of University of Technology Sydney; Dr. Ir. Wahyudi Sutopo of Universitas Sebelas Maret, Indonesia; and Dr. Sujan Debnath of Curtin Malaysia.

Quality research findings are being invited from researchers, engineers and academics on recent technical advancements, innovations, best practices and lessons learnt in relation to materials technology and energy.

All abstracts and papers received will be reviewed by the ICMTE 2019 Technical Review Committee and accepted and presented full-length papers will be published in IOP Conference Proceedings, which is indexed by ISI Web of Science (Conference Proceedings Citation Index), Scopus, Ei Compendex and other databases. Based on the review comments and recommendations, selected papers will also be recommended for submission and publication in Scopus/ISI-indexed journals.

Topics of interest for submission include a wide range of topics related to structures, materials and manufacturing, and environment, energy and resources. They include, but are not limited to, construction technology and management, construction and structural materials, structural design and analysis, smart materials, asset integrity management, corrosion engineering, drilling and production, shipbuilding, and applications in oil and gas.

In the area of environment, energy and resources, they can include renewable energy applications and technologies, oil and gas applications, power generation, wastewater treatment, biotechnology, process integration, cleaner production technology, petroleum geology, recent environmental issues, and other related topics.

Those who meet the necessary criteria for submissions are encouraged to submit their full-length papers via the conference website at http://www.iem-miri.org.my/p/icmte-2019.html before 15 September 2019.

Technical and scientific experts interested to get involved in reviewing conference paper submissions can express their interest by emailing Dr. Sukanta Roy at sukanta.roy@curtin.edu.my.

Academics, researchers, industry practitioners, entrepreneurs and other individuals interested to attend the conference are requested to register before 15 October 2019.

The ICMTE 2019 itinerary will include a half-day technical tour to the new RM60 million Bio Valley Park Pilot Plant at Curtin Malaysia. The plant is the first of its kind in Sarawak and is geared to support the development of new bio-products and processes and provide pilot plant facilities to assist the petrochemical and biotechnology industries in phytochemical and bioprocesses, including high-quality testing and development facilities for product analysis, product enhancement and quality assurance.

There will also be a half-day welding technology course for practising engineers and technical managers, as well as those interested to keep abreast of current welding technology or gain some knowledge about Welding Procedure Specification (WPS), Welding Procedure Qualification Test (WPQT) and Welder Qualification Test (WQT) for certification in the oil and gas industry. The course will also cover current effective non-destructive/inspection techniques as quality control tools.
