Miri – 1 March 2019 – Senior executives of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) were among guests at a reception hosted by His Excellency Andrew Goledzinowski, Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, to mark Australia Day 2019 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre recently.

They comprised Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Beena Giridharan and Chief Operating Officer Ir. Pieter Willem Pottas. Professor Mienczakowski and Professor Giridharan were accompanied by their spouses.

Works Minister Baru Bian was the guest of honour at the reception attended by more than 1,100 guests from the government, business community and civil society.

Professor Mienczakowski said the representatives from Curtin Malaysia, one of the three Australian foreign campuses operating in Malaysia, were honoured to be invited to attend by the high commissioner.

“It was nice being able to join so many others in celebrating Australia’s renowned education, tourism and innovation credentials, as well as the deep friendship between Australia and Malaysia,” he said.

Professor Mienczakowski praised the Australian high commissioner’s strong commitment to supporting the Australian branch campuses in Malaysia, as well as the much celebrated Australia-Malaysia education ties that have brought considerable benefit to students from Malaysia and across the world.

He added that the high commissioner made it a point to visit Curtin Malaysia last April to get a first-hand look at developments at its campus and is expected to visit again this April for Curtin Malaysia’s annual graduation ceremony and 20th anniversary celebration.
