Curtin Malaysia signs on as supporting partner for Asia Turbomachinery and Pump Symposium 2020

Miri – 15 October 2019 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station – Turbomachinery Laboratory (TEES-TL) to be a supporting partner for TEES-TL’s Asia Turbomachinery and Pump Symposium 2020 to be held in Kuala Lumpur next year.

The annual Asia Turbomachinery and Pump Symposium is an international, industry-driven symposium, offering a forum for the exchange of ideas between rotating equipment engineers and technicians worldwide. The 2020 edition will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 7 to 9 April 2020.

The MoU was signed by Greg Gammon, TEES-TL’s Director of Global And Corporate Partnerships, and Professor Jim Mienczakowski, Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive of Curtin Malaysia. Ir. Dr. Lim Chye Ing, Chair of the Industrial and External Relations Committee at Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Engineering and Science, recently met Gammon in Kuala Lumpur to exchange the MOU documents.

As a supporting partner, Curtin Malaysia will be actively involved in organising and promoting the symposium. In addition, its students will serve as volunteers at the event and selected final-year students will participate in the symposium’s poster presentation session. Curtin Malaysia students and academics will also be able to attend at no cost.

Gammon said the intent of the collaboration is not only to ensure a successful symposium but also create an ongoing cooperative working partnership between both the two organisations. He said the collaboration will start with the symposium and continue with other TEES-TL Asia Turbomachinery and Pump programmes in the Asia Pacific region thereafter. This will include giving Curtin Malaysia opportunities to promote its programmes and activities at future ATP events.

“We are pleased to have Curtin Malaysia as one of our symposium partners as it is a leading and highly-respected higher education institution in Malaysia and part of the global Curtin University. It can contribute significantly to the hosting of the event, as well as the exchange of knowledge and ideas that will take place during the symposium,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lim said Curtin Malaysia will help to promote the symposium nationally and internationally, including to its students and alumni. It will also assist in securing industrial participants and exhibitors, and promote submission of technical papers to the symposium and student attendance of related technical sessions and networking activities.

“We are committed to helping ensure the success of the symposium, and as Curtin University’s largest international campus and global hub in Asia with extensive national and global networks, we are well placed to assist in those efforts,” she said.
