Curtin Malaysia to play key role in enhancing Australia-Cambodia education ties

Miri – 20 August 2019 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is set to play a key role in enhancing international education development between Cambodia and Australia following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Curtin University and the Government of Cambodia in Phnom Penh recently.

The MoU was signed by His Excellency Hang Chuon Naron, Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sports and Professor Seth Kunin, Curtin University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, International, in the presence of Her Excellency Angela Corcoran, Australian Ambassador to Cambodia.

The agreement includes provisions for collaboration between Curtin University and leading Cambodian universities in academic and scientific research activities, including staff exchange and the development of doctoral programmes, as well as cooperation between the Royal University of Phnom Penh and Curtin University.  Importantly for Curtin Malaysia is the provision to work with the top five universities in Cambodia to deliver the Curtin Malaysia Foundation Programme.

Curtin Malaysia’s operations in the region, as Curtin University’s largest international campus and global hub in Asia, are a key element in Curtin’s global approach and in the support of its higher education ties in the region. As such, Curtin Malaysia is part of Curtin University’s plan to support and partner with universities not only in Cambodia, but throughout the ASEAN region, in various educational initiatives. It is also well placed to help promote international education sector.

Also present at the signing were Curtin University’s Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor, International Associate Professor Simon Leunig and Curtin Malaysia’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski, as well as Cambodia’s Director-General for Higher Education His Excellency Mak Ngoy and rectors of several Cambodian universities.
