Curtin Sarawak cleaners attend skills training

Miri – 29 July, 2009 – 21 cleaners attached to the Campus Services Department of Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) recently underwent training in housekeeping and cleaning to upgrade their knowledge and skills in carrying out their daily tasks.

The training was conducted over two days at the university campus by trainer Florince Christy of FC Management Services.

Topics included the responsibilities of housekeepers and cleaners, uses of different types of equipment, safety procedures and practices, identification and handling of chemicals, proper storage of chemicals and equipment, as well as instruction on proper cleaning techniques and processes.

According to Curtin Sarawak’s Chief Operating Officer James Ng, the university campus is expanding rapidly with new infrastructure having been built and more development to come in the near future. Therefore, it is imperative that the university’s Campus Services staff equip themselves with added skills and know-how to cope with the expansion, which will inevitably lead to expanded operations and added responsibilities.
