Curtin Sarawak lecturers do their bit for a good cause

Miri – 4 February 2013 – Two Marketing and Management lecturers from the School of Business of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) recently donated used carpets to Persatuan Ibu Bapa Kanak-Kanak Istimewa (PIBAKIS) and the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Sunflower Centre, Miri.

According to the lecturers, Edeseyi Margaret Ekisowei and Dr. Joseph Sia Kee Ming, the donation was part of the School of Business’ continual community outreach initiatives.

Lau Siew Hui and Liza Chai, representatives from PIBAKIS and the Sunflower Centre respectively, thanked the lecturers and the university for the donation.

Lau and a few special children from PIBAKIS personally collected the carpets from the campus. He said the carpets will be used at the association’s premises and make it more conducive for the children’s daily activities.

According to Dr. Sia, the carpets were surplus following renovations to the School of Business building and since they were still in exceptionally good condition, it was decided to donate them to charity rather than discarding them.

Meanwhile, Head of Department of Marketing and Management Associate Professor Dr. Alan Downe said he was pleased with the initiative of his two staff and hoped that more initiatives in support of local charitable causes will be carried out by staff of the School of Business in the course of the year.
