Curtin Sarawak librarians offer assistance to SMK Pujut

Miri – 21 April 2010 – Staff of the library at Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) led by chief librarian Levas Mejus paid SMK Pujut a visit on 17 April 2010 to explore ways they can help the school improve its library.

The initiative was part of Curtin Sarawak’s OUTReach programme, which provides academic enrichment and support for primary and secondary schools and knowledge building activities for the community.

On hand to welcome them were teachers of SMK Pujut led by Savithri Pillai, who later briefed the Curtin librarians on the school’s library collection, library system and how they carry out the cataloguing process.

Having minimal knowledge of cataloguing and classifying library materials, they sought the advice and assistance of the Curtin librarians, who readily offered to conduct a Cataloguing and Classification Workshop for teachers and librarian of the school.

The Curtin librarians also briefed the teachers on the Curtin Sarawak website, library system, and library cataloguing and classification processes to give them a better idea of the support Curtin Sarawak could offer.

The Curtin Sarawak Library supports staff and students of the university in teaching, learning and research. Its objectives include developing, managing and providing access to electronic, printed and non-printed materials, as well as scholarly information and relevant resources on the Internet through its website, for lifelong learning.

It also aims to ensure high-quality IT infrastructure to support electronic access to scholarly information, and that its facilities, services and personnel are optimised to meet scholarly needs.
