Curtin Sarawak Library presents books to SMK Lutong

Miri – 3 November 2010 – Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) recently presented 225 English Language, science, economics and computing reference books to SMK Lutong.

The decommissioned books from its library were presented by Chief Operating Officer James Ng to the principal of SMK Lutong, Marcus Hugo Matu Lenjau, in a simple handover ceremony in the library on 29 October 2010.

Also present were Curtin Sarawak’s Chief Librarian Levas Mejus, librarians Christina Urai Dang, Marlina Ahmad and Sorina Ramli, and library supervisor Maureen Ulau Engan, as well as teachers Fadzliani binti Fadzil and Tang Siew Lan of SMK Lutong.

Curtin Sarawak donated the books as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility and Outreach Programme, which includes promoting collaboration with other educational institutions in Miri.

“Our library staff are very supportive of the university’s community outreach programme and each year, they would prepare the books, which have been decommissioned from the library as needs change but can still be put to good use at other institutions, for presentation to local schools such as SMK Lutong,” said Ng.
