Curtin Sarawak’s Civil and Construction Engineering Department organises alumni reunion

Miri – 16 December 2013 – The alumni of the Civil and Construction Engineering Department, School of Engineering and Science of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) recently organised a ‘Civil Reunion 2013’ event for its graduates of 2005 to 2013.

The event, led by organising chairperson and 2006 alumni Chong Boon Hui, included a welcome cocktail, visit to the Curtin Sarawak campus and sharing session, as well as a dinner event. 30 alumni from all over Malaysia, Brunei and Maldives attended the event themed ‘Coming Home’.

To date, the Civil and Construction Engineering Department has produced more than 100 graduates since 2005. According to Head of Civil and Construction Engineering Department Dr. Tang Fu Ee, many of them are doing very well in their careers, working with multinational and renowned companies in the areas of construction, coastal and port engineering, water supply and distribution, environmental engineering, property development and others.

“There is a great demand for Curtin Sarawak’s civil and construction engineering graduates with many employers expressing their satisfaction with our graduates’ level of knowledge and preparedness, as well as their problem solving, technical and soft skills,” he said.

He also commented that close to 100 percent of the graduates secured employment within six months upon graduating and the industry is constantly seeking Curtin Sarawak’s graduates to work in their companies or to undergo internship programmes.

He added that a number of graduates are also enrolled in Curtin Sarawak and various universities as Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) students.

Commenting on the reunion event, Dr. Tang was very pleased to see the alumni doing well in their respective fields and thanked them for attending the event.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim Naufal from Maldives, a 2005 alumni, opined that Curtin Sarawak’s civil and construction engineering programme is a complete programme that has tremendously helped him in his career.

“The programme covers a wide variety of topics in detail. I hope Curtin Sarawak will continue to maintain its high standards for the benefit of future graduates,” said Ibrahim.

Other alumni commented that the programme prepared them to become more analytical and innovative before entering the corporate world
