Curtin Sarawak’s ScareFest a fund-raiser for two charities
Posted date:Miri – 27 September 2013 – The Student Council of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) is organising ScareFest, a Halloween-themed fund-raising festival event in aid of the Sarawak Family Planning Association and Sarawak Breast Cancer Support Group, on 11 October 2013.
The event, jointly organised with the university’s Department of University Life, will be held from 6 pm to 11 pm at Curtin Sarawak’s Recreation and Event Centre and is open to both students of the university and the public.
Tickets to the event are priced at RM30 each. Curtin Sarawak students are entitled to a discounted rate of RM120 for every five tickets purchased. Students who are interested to purchase tickets can do so at the Student Council Office on campus whilst members of the public can purchase tickets at Bintang Megamall (Zoso Music, Apple Rich, Remix Limited and Samba) during opening hours. Tickets are also being sold at Imperial Mall, Warung Najum and Little Big Drum Music Studio on weekends from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.
The highlight of the event will be a live performance by popular alternative rock band Estranged from Kuala Lumpur. Other live acts such as Ana and The Scene, Blue Maggie, Actual Size, The Mantra, Curtin Art and Dance Club, MYY Hustle and Oil Town Hip Hop will also be performing.
In addition, there will be food and product sales, a costume party, haunted house, Humans vs. Zombies Victory Night, screening of horror movies, trick-or-treat, as well as costume and pumpkin-carving contests. In line with the theme, those attending are encouraged to dress in Halloween costumes.
According to organising chairperson Sam Tze Mun, the event is a meaningful one as it is being held to raise funds for charity and with the attractions lined up, including the performance by Estranged, the Student Council hopes it will receive a good response.
“We trust the Miri community will wholeheartedly support the event. Not only will those attending have fun, but also help those in need at the same time,” said Sam, adding that a crowd of over 300 is expected.
