Fifth formers in Miri invited to participate in Curtin Sarawak’s SPM Workshop on 25 October

Miri – 20 October 2009 – Miri will be the last stop of Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak)’s upcoming SPM Workshop roadshow, which will see similar workshops being held in Kuching, Sibu and Kota Kinabalu on 17, 18 and 23 October 2009 respectively.

Fifth formers from all secondary schools in Miri are invited to participate in the Miri workshop which will be held from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm at Pustaka Miri on 25 October 2009. The workshop is free-of-charge and registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

The workshop will help motivate the fifth formers as they prepare for the approaching SPM examination, as well as help them develop their academics skills and alleviate as much as possible the anxiety and guesswork that comes with preparing for examinations.

As a leading educational institution in East Malaysia with vast experience in providing academic support and guidance to its students, Curtin Sarawak decided it was opportune to offer for the first time its expertise to secondary school students as well. While this year’s roadshow focuses on just Kuching, Sibu, Kota Kinabalu and Miri this year, similar workshops are expected to be extended to other towns next year.

Although the workshops are academic in nature, they are meant to be enjoyable and fulfilling learning experiences for the students, and thus have a rather lighthearted ‘SPM: Lights, Camera, Action!’ theme.

All the workshops will be facilitated by highly-experienced, award-winning lecturer Terence Tan of Curtin Sarawak’s School of Engineering and Science. Tan is a graduate of Imperial College London and inspiring lecturer who has successfully motivated his students to not only excel in their studies, but also win in state and national-level competitions.

The workshops are also an opportunity for students interested to pursue tertiary education after the SPM to find out more about Curtin Sarawak. The university, the first offshore campus of Western Australia’s Curtin University of Technology, offers a variety of high-quality courses, including foundation studies in commerce, arts, engineering and science; diploma courses in process plant technology and business; undergraduate degree courses in arts, commerce, science and technology, and postgraduate studies in project management, business, engineering and science. It also offers pre-university and intensive English language courses.

Students interested to participate in the workshop on 25 October 2009 are requested to register with Felecia Ngalih of Curtin Sarawak’s Marketing Department no later than 22 October 2009. Felecia can be contacted at 085-443939 or 019-8856076.
