Posted date:Miri – 20 November 2013 – It is just over two weeks to go to the 8th CUTSE International Conference to be held at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) on 3 and 4 December 2013 and the response so far has been very positive with an expected 150 participants from 6 countries and some 142 papers to be presented.
The annual CUTSE Conference is an effective platform for the exchange of ideas, knowledge and information on the latest developments and innovation in the field of engineering and the sciences.
In 2006, the first CUTSE Conference was held in Miri and ever since, it has continued to provide participants a good platform for sharing and learning and attracted participation from a number of countries in addition to Malaysia and Australia. Last year’s conference saw the participation of 122 participants representing 10 countries and the presentation of 170 papers.
According to conference chair Dr. Khor Ee Huey, in recent years, the focus of the conference has been on finding eco-friendly and sustainable solutions to problems across all areas. As such, the theme of this year’s conference is ‘Science, Sustainability, Solutions’. She added that the conference will not only involve academics of the university, but also its final year students from all engineering disciplines.
This year’s conference is being organised by the Department of Science and Foundation of Curtin Sarawak’s School of Engineering and Science in collaboration with The Institute of Engineers Malaysia, Miri Branch.
Researchers, engineers, scientists, academics, industry professionals and students will be gathering at this conference to share their research findings and initiate collaboration in their respective fields. Parallel sessions for mechanical, electrical, computer, civil and chemical engineering as well as the sciences will be hosted during the two days.
The student participants will get the opportunity to present their research projects and gain valuable feedback from industry professionals. Papers on (but not necessarily limited to) environment, energy and resources; structures, materials and manufacturing; systems and control; mechatronics and ICT; and engineering science fundamentals will be presented during the conference.
The refereed conference proceedings will be published on CD-ROM prior to the conference and distributed to all registered participants at the conference. In particular, selected papers will be published in special issues of the journals of World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology (WASET).
Among the keynote speakers at the conference will be Associate Professor Dr. Sow Chorng Haur, Vice Dean of Research, Faculty of Science of the Department of Physics at National University of Singapore (NUS). Another keynote speaker will be Wong Tiong Kai, Chief Executive Officer of LAKU Management Sdn. Bhd. In addition, Professor Goh Bean San, a Professorial Fellow at the Curtin Sarawak Research Institute, will deliver a special talk on ‘Management of Biological Populations without a Good Mathematical Model of the Natural Dynamics’ during the second day of the conference.
