International delegates share insights into smart computing and communications systems at ICSCC in Miri

Miri – 26 July 2019 – The recent 7th International Conference on Smart Computing and Communications (ICSCC 2019) hosted by Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) brought together about 100 experts from the international smart computing and communication systems community to discuss smart computing and low-energy system design.

The 3-day conference was organised by The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Malaysia ComSoc/VTS Joint Chapter in collaboration with IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology (EMB), Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) and National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra.

Themed ‘Smart Computational Intelligence for a Digital World’, the conference focused on topics like Sustainable Computing and Communications, Green Technology, Smart Grids, Green Data Centres, Green Buildings and Sustainable ICT.

The conference’s keynote speakers comprised prominent academics, including Professor Mohamad Yusoff Alias of Multimedia University Malaysia; Professor Robert Ernest Kooij of Singapore University of Technology and Design; Professor Andrew Rohl of Curtin University, Australia; and Professor Ved Ram Singh of the National Physical Laboratory in India.

Invited speakers included Dr. Jimson Mathew of the Indian Institute of Technology Patna, India; Professor Ashutosh Kumar Singh from the National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra, India; Professor Kok-Lim Alvin Yau of Sunway University; and Ir. Professor Muhammad Nizam of Universitas Sebelas Maret, Indonesia.

All accepted and presented full papers from the conference will be submitted to IEEEXplore, a digital library which offers discovery and access to scientific and technical content published by the IEEE and its publishing partners. IEEE Xplore provides web access to more than four million full-text documents from some of the world’s most highly-cited publications in electrical engineering, computer science, and electronics.

A Hack Weekend or HackWknd, the first held in northern Sarawak, was held concurrently with the conference also held during the conference. Organised by the IEEE Curtin Malaysia Student Branch, the HackWknd gathered young programmers, designers and creative thinkers among students of the university and the local community to design digital solutions to challenges faced by industry and government in Miri City.
