‘One Beat One Soul’ Chinese cultural extravaganza at Curtin Malaysia
Posted date:Miri – 29 May 2019 – A grand cultural event themed ‘One Beat One Soul’ to showcase various forms of Chinese culture is being held at the campus of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia). All members of the university community, as well as members of the public, are invited to join the festivities.
Organised by the student-run Curtin Chinese Culture Club at the university, ‘One Beat One Soul 2019’ will feature a variety of performances, both traditional and modern, to promote Chinese culture. Besides that, the event is also aimed at raising funds for the club.
Tickets are priced at RM20 each and will be available at the door. There is also a group rate of RM70 for four persons.
The event will be held from 7 pm to 9.30 pm in The Auditorium at the university and over 300 people, including Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is chair of the Curtin Malaysia Management Committee, and State Assemblyman for Piasau Datuk Sebastian Ting, are expected to attend.
Also expected to attend are Curtin Malaysia Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Beena Giridharan, Chief Operating Officer Ir. Pieter Willem Pottas and Stevenson Tan, advisor to the Curtin Chinese Culture Club.
This will be second time the ‘One Beat One Soul’ is being organised following an inaugural event last year. Due to the overwhelming response to that event, it was decided to organise a second bigger and more spectacular event this year.
This year’s performances will include a variety of traditional and contemporary dances, as well as lion dance, drums and Chinese yo-yo performances, Wushu demonstration, singing, and musical performances featuring the Erhu (two-stringed Chinese fiddle) and Guzheng (Chinese zither).
All of the performers will be students of Curtin Malaysia, except for the Wushu demonstration and traditional dance, which will be performed by students from SMK Chung Hua Miri.
The event is being sponsored by Datuk Lee Kim Shin, the Curtin Malaysia Student Council, Broadway Colour Centre, City Printing House Sdn. Bhd., CT Academic Services, Green Summit Development Group of Companies, Hot Cross Buns Café Bakery (EM) Sdn. Bhd., Nam Leong Department Store (Miri) Sdn. Bhd., Tea Co. and Xtracol Enterprise Sdn. Bhd.
The Curtin Chinese Culture Club was established in February this year, combining what were once the Curtin 24 Festive Drums Club and Curtin Lion Dance Club into one cultural club. For more information on the event or ‘One Beat, One Soul 2019’, email curtinchineseculturalclub@gmail.com.
